Build Your Relationship with City Hall – Schedule a Meeting Today

In this new time of political change, we all have an obligation to know our elected officials and to speak our minds to them.  Take this day to schedule a meeting with your local lawmakers.  It’s quick, easy, and an opportunity to introduce yourself, explain why you support medical cannabis, and to drop off ASA’s Sample Ordinance or Letter to California Cities.

- Find Your Officials: Visit The Prohibition Clan page to find out which five lawmakers represent you (one Mayor, and four City Council Members).

 

- Make the Appointment:  Call City Hall or each elected official directly to set up appointments to speak with someone about local safe access to medical cannabis.  Tell the scheduler that you’re a local concerned citizen – and want to talk about this very important issue.  They may ask you to submit a written request for the meeting.  Get help for that here.

 

- Get Local Expert Help:  Send an email to SanDiegoASA@gmail.com or call 619-303-1918 to request assistance from local medical marijuana advocacy experts.   San Diego ASA is always willing to offer time and resources to achieving local safe access.

 

- Prepare:  Print a copy of ASA’s Sample Ordinance and Letter to California Cities.  Also visit Americans for Safe Access Resources for Organizers for outreach materials, media manuals and more.

 

- How the meeting will go:  Very simple.  Introduce yourself.  Talk about why you support medical cannabis.  Drop off ASA’s Sample Ordinance and Letter to California Cities.  You don’t need to be an expert on the topic.  Just be yourself. Have a conversation. Tell them why it works, or how you’ve seen it impact the lives of those you love.  Elected officials want to know how everyday people feel about issues, not always just the experts.

 

- Let Us Know:  Post your findings, comments, meetings and any other useful information on The Prohibition Clan page specific to your city.  Let other locals know your progress towards safe access locally. 

 

In this age of change we have a responsibility to take control over the decisions made by our elected officials.  It will get easier every time, you’ll be empowered to take part in your democracy, and it will be effective.

ASA Peaceful Protest / Rally:HARM Medical Marijuana Eradication Seminar

ASA protested today to educate HARM and the public about the AMA recognized medical benefits of medical cannabis and the harmful effects this seminar is causing to San Diego County.

Just yesterday, on 11/10/09 the largest physician-based group in the country, the American Medial Association (AMA), voted to reverse its long-held position that marijuana has no medical value and now says botanical-cannabis should NOT be a Federal Schedule I controlled substance!

Now today, on 11/12/09 HARM, a local San Diego County funded group whose goal is to decrease, “through eradication”, the accessibility of medical marijuana and is holding this seminar for city and county employees, on city and county time and on OUR last dollar.  HARM has become harmful financially to the county and socially to the local community through the efforts to deny safe access in San Diego County.

Prop 215 and The Compassionate Use Act of 2006 are protected by law.  HARM is now placing the county in harms way by encouraging county officials to violate the California Constitution, by providing Martin J Mayer, general counsel to the California Police Chiefs and Sheriff’s associations.  Mayer will be advising public employees and policymakers on how to ban medical marijuana in the county and how to circumvent the will of San Diego voters.

California Constitution Article 3, Section 3.5 (c):

 “An administrative agency, including an administrative agency created by the Constitution or an initiative statute, has no power:  “To declare a statute unenforceable, or to refuse to enforce a statute on the basis that federal law or federal regulations prohibit the enforcement of such statute” unless an appellate court has made a determination that the enforcement of such statute is prohibited by federal law or federal regulations.”  (Source:http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/.const/.article_3)

 ASA finds it vital to inform the public that our local officials have moved far beyond attacking what they claim to be “drug dealers” to now explicitly working against the public interest in direct violation of the California Constitution. 

This is not just a medical marijuana issue; it’s also violating your of rights as a voter in this state.  If you let them violate the medical marijuana community today, the will surely violate you.

Fierce Fight

There is one main opponent to safe access in San Diego County.  Of course it’s Bonnie Dumanis and the ridiculous “fierce fight“ being waged against medical marijuana patients and caregivers by the San Diego County District Attorney. 

 

The DA has enlisted help from The Prohibition Clan to bolster efforts to deny safe access to medical marijuana in San Diego County.  Until now, reports about the activities of Bonnie and the DA’s clan of reefer madness county prohibitionists has 

San Diego Medical Marijuana Prohibitionist Karen Hewitt, United States Attorney

Dispite the federal governments “preemption memo”, US Attorney Hewitt is always seen flanking District Attorney Dumanis as well when the TV cameras are rolling and the DA’s lies are flowing. . .

Attorney Karen Hewitt is a Bush appointee who recently responded to the new federal guidelines by claiming she still does not have to prove a violation of state law before prosecuting someone under federal law.

 

I’m not sure why Attorney Hewitt cannot say the words “medical marijuana” together in one breath.  More federal training is needed here or more simply Truth in Trials!

San Diego Medical Marijuana Prohibitionist William D. Gore, County Sheriff

The Sheriff is always seen flanking District Attorney Dumanis when the TV cameras are rolling and the DA’s lies are flowing. . .

However, in Sept. 2009 Sheriff Gore was quoted as saying “It’s very controversial. I wish instead of passing a medical marijuana law, which is being abused, they should have a debate on legalizing it…If a person has serious medical problems, cancer or glaucoma, that’s one thing. But not stress or sleep problems. In our investigation, we’re finding people using this are 18-30….Now the County is issuing medical marijuana cards, but the issue of dispensaries is still problematic. The law says they can’t make money. They can be a coop, or a nonprofit…Do we have a lot of resources dedicated to this? The answer is no.”

I’m not sure what the sheriff is referring to, my “insurance office” was called and visited by undercover sheriff’s asking to purchase “WEED” one day after a ASA meeting were I gave out my office business card . . . I think Sheriff Gore is lying though the stars on his badge. . .
